McKinleyville Teen & Community Center

Found at 1685 Gwin Road, McKinleyville, CA 95519, the McKinleyville Teen & Community Center is home to The Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods Teen CLUB, offering out of school programming for Middle and High Schoolers aged 11 to 18. Although the real cost to cover these programs is $504 per child per year, BGCR has been able to have the school year Membership fee be $30.00 per child. Individual and corporate contributions make up the rest of the cost.

Every day members are helped with their homework, participate in organized sports, arts & crafts projects, and enjoy a nutritious snack. The Club focuses on five core areas of development: Sports, Fitness and Social Recreation, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Education and Career. Focusing on these areas provides the children who participate the opportunity to engage in programs that will enable them to develop positive self images and reach their full potential.

Diploma2Degree is a college prep program for 9th to 12th graders. It features tutoring, academic counseling, career development and college research. This program meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00-6:30pm.

Keystone is a program that focuses on leadership and character development, community volunteering, fundraising and features an end of the year trip. Keystone meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00pm.

Smart Moves is a seminar style program that focuses on physical, emotional and social development while allowing the members to express themselves openly in a positive environment. This program is for 12-14 year olds on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 4:30pm.

Power Snack happens Monday-Thursday and is a 30 minute block of time set aside for Homework/Reading/Quiet Play and a nutritious snack.
